That Good Part

Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from herLuke 10:41-41
This morning, sitting in my garden, I see you, Lord, all around me. The guara and salvia sway in the breeze, birds sing, and squirrels play tag. The clouds blunt the rays of the sun, and the beauty and stillness of the space resonate in my soul. Although I cannot see the sun, I know it is there. In the distance, I hear the sound of cars on the road and a garbage truck, with its pulsating beep-beep-beep, creeping through the neighborhood. I struggle to keep the peace and beauty of my garden in my soul, while constantly feeling the pull of the world. A plane overhead makes me think of travel, and I am distracted once again. The day has just started, and it is my time with the Lord. Why is my mind going hither and thither? I try to quiet my mind and sit in the Presence of the Lord. There is a battle going on. But Lord, you knew that would be the case. The Word says, "You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You."Is.26:3 NKJV. Mary and Martha were sisters who followed Jesus. Martha was distracted by life, like I often am . Mary, on the other hand, chose the better part, which was to be in the presence of Jesus. Jesus was gentle with Martha and encouraged her to consider his words, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her”. Luke 10:41-42 NKJV. Jesus did not suggest that Martha’s service and dutifulness were a bad thing; rather, the better thing was to sit at his feet and hear from Him. Jesus showed us this very thing when He stole away from His disciples to be with the Father. Silence and solitude are demonstrated throughout the Gospels by Jesus. Lord, you are the Way. Father, thank you for being so patient with me. Help me to choose the better part. Thank you for wanting to spend time with me. Help me to choose You over anything else.
